Our Christmas Eve tradition… 🎁 Christmas pjs! This started with my dad, the first year Joel and I were together when we were 14 years old! And now I’ve passed it on to our kids!

Well… here it is ⬇️

I was assigned the task of bringing an appetizer for Christmas Eve dinner. But this was no simple task to decide what I’d bring. My in laws are pretty much vegetarian. I’m much more a cook and baker but knew we’d be traveling so I had to get strategic.

I decided after so many of you gave me your input, I’d try my hand at a cream cheese ball- and it didn’t disappoint! I’ll be sure to let you know how it goes over after tonight’s festivities but I think it’s pretty tasty!

Friend, here’s your reminder that you can do hard things with Jesus. Having faith isn’t about an absence of pain and suffering, but that He will be with you in it.

Speak this truth in the comments “I can do hard things” if you’re in a season of hard.

Share this with a friend and remind them that suffering isn’t a curse, a gift to remind us that we can do hard things and we are not alone. We suffer with Christ.

As we embark on these last few weeks before labor I’m reminding myself I can do anything for 60 seconds. I’m preparing my mind, my body, and my spirit that there is purpose in the pain and it will produce a beautiful baby boy in my arms.

And here’s a comparison for real life and childbirth… when you fight the pain, the suffering only intensifies. Be grounded, ride the wave, and remember that there is peace on the other side.

I’ve been holding out. I feel it.

Trauma will do that. Getting your hopes up is a recipe for disaster and disappointment- sometimes. And it sucks. No sugar coating it.

Yet every time I go back to labor, do you know what stands out to me? That moment my husband was ready to throw in the towel for me, because he was tired of seeing me labor in pain and agony- in a birth experience I fought so hard to avoid. In the moment he felt weakest, I was mentally ALL IN. I was stubborn and persistent. Confident.

I refused a c-section as an unnecessary intervention for the 5th or 6th time in the same shift. And you know what keeps coming to my mind?

The moment I fought for- as I raised my hands high surrendered Abel’s birth to the Lord and envisioned my midwife team at my side for Elijah (because we knew we weren’t finished having babies).

Why is that so significant? Because if I had given into the pressure of the medical staff pushing me to have a c-section, I would have ruled out the possibility of having a home birth again. I knew God didn’t give me that desire to let me down. That’s not in His character.

Yet for some reason I have struggled with the process of imagining this birth and we are nearly on the heels of it. It’s a trauma response- I know.

What do you do? When you’re afraid because your expectations and your experience are opposing and you’re scared to get your hopes up- again?

There’s no dipping your toe in the second go around. Your brain is firing those fight, flight, or freeze responses and my natural response is to FREEZE. I do nothing, but that’s also a response- an inaction is an action that’s delaying progress.

I write out my fears. I lay them at the feet of Jesus and I choose affirming ones instead. I take back the power, hold my thoughts captive to God’s unwavering character and know that regardless of how this birth story plays out, it’s God’s story- I’m just playing the role He has given me.

I trade feelings of…
disappointment for hope
bitterness for curiousness
let down for thankfulness
skepticism for confidence
fragility for courage
worry for peace

What negative feelings about your current situation do you need to trade for hope?

Confession: I struggled today.

I let some things I couldn’t control hijack my evening. My emotions took over. Perhaps my hormones too.

Joy wasn’t chosen. It felt too far away, too hard to search for in these moments.

Then I remembered… “the stress I feel, Elijah feels.” Guilt set in.

Emotions take over my thoughts and blur my vision. Suddenly I’m struggling to breathe.

I decided to take a shower, fill the pan with lavender oil and let aromatherapy do its job. The water pours over my body. I find my breath and remind myself that I will not be robbed a beautiful birth because of stress I cannot control- again!

My life mission is to help women find joy in every season of life.

And, while I can’t go into the details of the story that’s unfolding in our lives, it’s not lost on me that this is the burden I get to carry to make space, to earn the receipts to share my hardships with you- to give you hope and not just convince you to find JOY but to fight for it.

Friend, when you declare war, take up your cross and follow Jesus, you will not be immune to struggles and suffering. But you will have the blood of Jesus covering you. You will have the power of the name of Jesus over your battle and he’s NEVER lost.

Even when it feels hopeless. Even when joy doesn’t come when you need it. Even when it all feels for nothing- I promise you, He is NOT AGAINST YOU. He’s fighting for you, with you, and in you!

Keep going. friend.

A bittersweet day in the Alonso house.

Months ago, I told Adam that he was to be very careful and never throw away this loaf pan. It’s been very sentimental to me, because it belonged to my great Aunt Lou.

She was never married and never had any children, but when she passed, she gave her entire life’s savings as a nurse and everything she had as an inheritance to her great nieces (there were no great nephews).

I will never forget the day going to my grandmother’s house, just 12 years old, and getting to choose from all of her kitchen wear. We each got to choose whatever we wanted. And while I’m not sure if my cousins still have any of her belongings, I still have them all. That day would forever means so much to me, because she chose me.

I’ve been making muffins in this pan since the first time I was pregnant… and it got me through those late night hunger pains from pregnancy and it has fed my kids, countless blueberry muffins!

Last week, I noticed that it started getting holes in it… and one use later, it started looking like this 😓

So, I broke down and ordered a new silicone muffin pan, because two batches of muffins barely makes it two days in this house.

It’s bitter and sweet because of what this pan represents for me and the woman that my Aunt Lou was will be remembered, even in my new mini loaf confetti pan!

You changed my life. A day later, I’d receive the devastating news that life would never be the same for Joel. While I had hope that one day he would fully recover, my heart wasn’t prepared to see the reality.

And still, I would spend all my days with him, getting our hopes up!

But what we really realized in those really challenging and difficult moments, was that the mercy of an unfailing God would work a miracle— giving 9 more years of Joel. A true second chance not only for his life but for all of us who knew him.

Life is fragile. Life is hard. Life is tough. And yet there is joy to be found- if you’re up for the journey of finding it.

Let this be your reminder that miracles do happen. And while Joel may not have been able to walk or talk again on this side of eternity, he’s been running streets of gold for the last (nealry)6 years. THAT is the best miracle. And I’ll have to admit, I’d be lying if I said I’m not jealous.

Thankful for second chances. 💜

This is their “something shared” and it’s super special because they have been seeing their daddy work on it (minus it all put together with the bins and the sign on top). No elves labored on this one and they know! Just Daddy with Mommy’s vision.

HELP ‼️ Now give me all your ideas for the sign paint ⬇️

We also have yellow and red bins to change out. We are going to add a top piece, hooks for their utensils and possibly a shelf over the sinks.

Just over 1 month til our 5th kiddo enters the world. We are prepping and praying for a redeeming second home birth, despite our first having unplanned interventions.

Things we are changing about this birth:
- planning for our kids to be home during this birth and hiring a helper for them
- not stressing over the details and perfection (flowers, time of day)
- taking a birth class about peaceful birth
- using water for pain management (we planned on this but didn’t get to the last time)
- using the toilet in active labor for gravity (we didn’t plan on this but this was the one place I felt best during laboring with my son)

Things we aren’t changing:
- no guests postpartum (until we feel ready)
- natural birth
- pain relief- tens unit, using my husband’s physical strength, homeopathy, ____ (what am I missing? fill in the blank.)

Years ago I was on the farm on Facebook live hollering at my goats IYKYK… I was warning them that if they kept being “bad goaties” that the bears were going to come and get them. Little did I know that little white lie would form a beautiful friendship.

Lorie had been watching me from Louisiana for years- since 2015 to be exact when I danced with Joel on Inside Edition. But that very day was the day she reached out asking if we really had bears at our farm- to which I told her the truth (there were no 🐻).

Before I knew it, that conversation would turn to a special friendship, even from far away. Lorie flew out and visited me twice at the farm before we moved and then last year, shortly after we welcomed Abel into the world. My friend Lorie became “Aunt Lorie” and is nothing short of family to us.

That’s just one of dozens of stories I have about friendships I’ve made online. That’s why I’m beyond excited that you too have landed here!

I’ve been praying for you, hopefully expecting you’d show up at our “door” so I could welcome you inside!

Years ago I was on the farm on Facebook live hollering at my goats IYKYK… I was warning them that if they kept being “bad goaties” that the bears were going to come and get them. Little did I know that little white lie would form a beautiful friendship.

Lorie had been watching me from Louisiana for years- since 2015 to be exact when I danced with Joel on Inside Edition. But that very day was the day she reached out asking if we really had bears at our farm- to which I told her the truth (there were no 🐻).

Before I knew it, that conversation would turn to a special friendship, even from far away. Lorie flew out and visited me twice at the farm before we moved and then last year, shortly after we welcomed Abel into the world. My friend Lorie became “Aunt Lorie” and is nothing short of family to us.

That’s just one of dozens of stories I have about friendships I’ve made online. That’s why I’m beyond excited that you too have landed here!

I’ve been praying for you, hopefully expecting you’d show up at our “door” so I could welcome you inside!

We are making a shift this Christmas with stockings too… we’re inviting Grayson to participate in filling stockings—not as a gift from Santa, but as a way to practice generosity. We’ve explained the story of St. Nicholas and how his legacy reflects the heart of Christ’s love for others. I am planning to take Grayson on a special shopping trip to help choose stocking stuffers for everyone! I’ll continue to do this with each kid as they get older and can participate with each kid getting a sibling’s stocking to fill.

Don’t hate me but… This year we broke the news that “magic” isn’t real… no Santa… no reindeer… no elf.

For me, the true reason for the season (at least in our family) has been overshadowed with magic, icicles, colorful lights, and a jolly man in a red cap and rosy red cheeks, who is flying through the air led by his eight tiny reindeer with toys for all the good little boys and girls in the world.

We’ve retired Mommy on Elf duty and swapped it out for a new tradition that will take the place of the “magical” Elf on the Shelf, which if I’m honest, we LOATHE.

I actually told Grayson that he can now play the elf himself and it’s more of a game for him- he loves hiding it each day for his sister to find. Plus he is enjoying the sneakiness- he loves setting booby traps and using his imagination to come up with stunts for the elf each day. And, it takes the pressure off of mom! 😅
