The Famous Ms. Edith’s Chocolate Chip Cookies: A Beloved Family Recipe Shared After 20 Years

Ms. Edith was my beloved neighbor during my high school and college years. These cookies became an annual birthday treat for everyone. If Ms. Edith were ask you what you wanted for your birthday... these cookies were at the top of your list! Lucky for me, she passed her recipe down to me and I am finally sharing it with the world over 20 years later.


Ingredients: 1 cup Unsalted Butter

3/4 cup Sugar

3/4 cup Light Brown Sugar

1 tsp Vanilla

2 eggs

2 1/2 cups All Purpose Flour

1 tsp Salt

1 tsp Baking Soda

2 cups Chocolate Chips


Optional: 1 Cup Coarsely Chopped Pecans



Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.

  2. Cream butter and sugars together until combined. Add eggs and vanilla and mix well.

  3. Sift together flour, salt, and baking soda in a separate bowl and gradually stir into butter/sugar mixture.

  4. Once combined, stir in chocolate chips (and pecans).

  5. Spoon dough onto ungreased cookie sheet (or one lined with a silicone mat or parchment paper) in 1 1/2 tablespoon amounts.

  6. Bake for 10 minutes or until edges are golden brown.



Notes:

You can mix and match chocolate chips for white chocolate or peanut butter to your liking.
